STATEMENT: ALBERTA, CANADIAN GOVERNMENTS SIGN DEAL FOR $1.3B HYDROGEN PLANT IN EDMONTON REGION

Edmonton, Alberta — James Cumming, Member of Parliament for Edmonton Centre and the Official Opposition Shadow Minister for COVID-19 Economic Recovery, issued the following statement:

"Today, it was announced that both the provincial and federal government are working with Air Products Canada “to build the $1.3-billon plant, which would produce the clean-burning fuel from natural gas.” The Conservative Party have been long standing supporters and advocates of the energy sector, and as a proud Albertan and Edmontonian, I am extremely proud to see such strong commitments towards the economy and the environment occur within the region."

"This ground-breaking initiative will help Canada transition towards a net-zero emissions economy, while also sustaining the socio-economic prosperity of Alberta’s critically important energy sector. The government and private sector should always work towards creating revenue streams and encouraging investment into our country."

"This plant represents an excellent example of how this dynamic is supposed to work, and the desired outcomes that result from a cooperative relationship based on utilizing Canadians unique resources, leading in innovation and environmentally friendliness and ample opportunity for jobs, regional economic productivity, and improved societal welfare. The benefits are endless and developing a cleaner more sustainable environment is something I, along with my colleagues are in full support of in this project and similar initiatives."
